Former athletic director "Blue guys" Frank Arensen said that the English club severely erred in allowing him to leave the Serbian footballer.
"We had a lot of talent in Chelsea, many of them were given the wonderful opportunity to play, however, Matic never got a real chance and the pressure on him was huge," said Arensen British media.
Arensen said he was proud of what he did while he was athletic director at the London club.
"I'm proud of what I did at Chelsea. Fabio Borini and Daniel Staridge are now in Liverpool, Miroslav Štoh in Fenerbahce, while Nemanja Matic Portugal's Benfica star," said the former Chelsea sporting director.
Chelsea Matic led the summer of 2009. Kosice in Slovak, only to be sent to the first loan in the Dutch Vitesse, and then forwarded to Benfica as part of the transfer of Brazilian defender David Luiz.
