ALKMAAR, August 31 (Eredivisie) - AZ Alkmaar moved up to fourth in the Eredivisie after a 3-0 win over Excelsior on Friday night. AZ made short shrift of disposing of their opponents with goals from Kemy Agustien, Gretar Rafn Steinsson and Demy de Zeeuw. In the eighth minute Moussa Demble flew down the right wing and crossed to Ari Ferreira, whose low shot was safely gathered by waiting Excelsior goalkeeper Ronald Graafland. Five minutes later Ferreira had another chance, this time shooting over the crossbar after another Demble set-up. They took the lead in the 24th minute.A long ball from Maarten Martens saw Graafland come way out of his goal to try and claim the ball, but Augestein beat him to it and shot into an open net. On the stroke of half-time they doubled their lead, Marteens' corner was only cleared as far as Augestein, and his shot from the edge of the area was deflected in by Steinsson. They wrapped up the win 17 minutes into the second period.Martens again was the instigator, playing the ball through to the unmarked De Zeeuw and he kept his shot low to beat Graafland. Excelsior had had few chances but nine minutes from time they had a chance to narrow the deficit, Tjeed Korf breaking through on the left but watched his shot tipped away for a corner. The AZ fans had more to cheer after the game as the club announced they had signed Mounir El Hamdaoui on a five-year contract from Willem II. He will step into the shoes of Danny Koevermans, who has left to join PSV.
