UEFA Nations league Serbia 2-0 Switzerland - Highlights and news 13.10.2024

Serbia drove through Nico Elvedi's own objective in first-half stoppage time and Aleksandar Mitrovic multiplied the benefit before Predrag Rajkovic saved a punishment from Swiss striker Breel Embolo. Serbia took a giant stride towards survival in the UEFA Nations League top-flight by securing a 2-0 victory over near rivals Switzerland - their first-ever head-to-head win. With  Serbia  and  Switzerland  essentially competing against each other to avoid relegation from Group A4, you’d have been forgiven for expecting a brighter start from two sides desperate to beat the other. It turned out to be quite the opposite though, as the only bright spot in an incredibly dull start came when  Veljko Birmancevic ’s tame effort was easily gathered by  Gregor Kobel . It took until just after the half-hour mark for the game's first big chance to arrive, but it was wasted by  Breel Embolo  who skewed wide after he was teed up by  Silvan Widmer . That ...

Turkey - Hungary - Euro 2008

League: Euro 2008 qualifiers Event: Turkey - Hungary Final score: 3-0 Goal scorers: Gökhan 68' Aurelio 72' Halil Altıntop 90'+ 3 Match report from UEFA : Turkey win as Gera sees red Two goals in four second-half minutes proved the difference as Turkey defeated ten-man Hungary to revive their hopes of qualifying for UEFA EURO 2008™. Late flurry After being frustrated by Hungary for more than three-quarters of the game in Istanbul, Turkey made the most of Zoltán Gera's dismissal to score through Gökhan Ünal and Mehmet Aurelio before Halil Altıntop sealed the win with a late third. The three points earned put Turkey level with Norway in second place in Group C. Even contest Fatih Terim's men were looking to improve on form that had yielded no victories from three preceding qualifiers, including a draw in Malta on Saturday. They began a fast-paced game well and went close to scoring through Gökdeniz Karadeniz and Tuncay Sanli in the first half. Hungary ha...

Euro 2008 Bosnia-Herzegovina - Hungary 1:3

Event: Euro 2008 qualifiers National Teams: Bosnia-Herzegovina - Hungary Final score: 1:3 Goal scorers: Misimović 64 Huszti 36(pen) Gera 46 Dárdai 49 News few days before at Uefagames : Fuad Muzurović insists Bosnia-Herzegovina "have not abandoned hope" as they look to make up for defeat in Hungary on Saturday with a win at home against Moldova. Major blow A 1-0 loss in Szekesfehervar saw Bosnia-Herzegovina lose their first away game of the campaign and ended Muzurović's run of three UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers without defeat since his appointment in December. Now fourth in Group C with trips to Greece and Turkey to come, their chances of qualifying for the finals have been dealt a major blow; but for the coach, it is not a fatal one. Hope undiminished "After losing in Hungary, our chances of finishing second in the group have diminished," he said. "We have not abandoned hope though. We have four more matches but first we need to beat Mold...

One and only...Michael Laudrup... 09.28.2024 news and highlights

Michael Laudrup, a former Danish national team player and player for Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid, refused to go to the European Football Championship in 1992 in protest at the expulsion of Yugoslavia, which was better in the qualifiers. Namely, Yugoslavia was first in the qualification group, and Denmark was second. He said then that neither he nor his national team deserved to replace a better team, the one that won it on the field, the country still called Yugoslavia at the time. To make the irony even greater, the Danes then won the championship by defeating Germany. When asked if he regrets not being part of the team that won the European Championship, he only briefly stated: "Senseless question, a great injustice was done to Yugoslavia."
